Dr. Joseph E. Buwembo

Dr. Joseph English Buwembo is a neurosurgeon at the Regina General Hospital, Regina, and an Associate Professor, Division of Neurosurgery, Department of Surgery, University of Saskatchewan, Canada.

He graduated with MB, ChB; Makerere University, Uganda, then pursued Neurosurgery Residency at the University of Cape Town, South Africa and obtained a degree of Master of Medicine in Neurosurgery ( MMed ) and also became a Fellow of the College of Surgeons (FCS ) of South Africa. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC)with Neurosurgery.

Besides general neurosurgery, he has a special interest in Neuromodulation for Chronic pain and Movement Disorders.

He is the current president of UNAMS.

Dr. Bechedza Hatichki

Dr.  Bechedza Hatitchki is an inpatient psychiatrist at the Regina General Hospital , in Regina Saskatchewan Canada. She is an assistant professor with the University of Saskatchewan , as well as an academic advisor for the current 4th year psychiatry resident’s cohort.

She graduated with MB BCh BAO at the University College of Cork, Ireland and completed higher specialty training in psychiatry in Cork, Ireland. She is a fellow with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Dr Hatitchki has practiced both in the acute psychiatric setting, outpatient setting, correctional services as well as outreach services. She is also passionate about teaching and has actively participated in teaching both undergraduate medical students and  psychiatry residents.

Mr. Mark Lubuulwa

Mark Lubuulwa is an experienced business administrator specializing in strategic planning, organizational leadership, business communication, and accountability. He currently serves as a Business Development Specialist at Nexim Healthcare Consultants, a leading healthcare staffing corporation in North America, where he drives organizational growth and innovation.

In addition to his professional role, Mark holds several leadership positions, including Administrative Secretary of the Uganda North American Medical Society (UNAMS), Secretary of the Kabaka Foundation Canada, and Board Member of the New African Canadians Association (NAC). He is also actively involved in volunteer work, serving as Blood Donation Mobilizer for Canada Blood Services, Chairperson of the Bulungibwansi-Canada Association, and Team Leader of the Luganda Academy Canada.

Mark is committed to cultural preservation, community empowerment, and promoting sustainable growth in the communities he serves. He is a passionate advocate for healthcare accessibility in underprivileged areas and plays a key role in organizing the Uganda North American Medical Society’s International Medical initiatives.

Dr. Mbaga Walusimbi
Dr. Mbaga Walusimbi, MD, FACS,General and Trauma Surgeon, Daytona, Ohio, USA. Associate Professor, Wright State University, Ohio.

Dr. Ivar Mendez
Dr. Ivar Mendez OC is a Canadian neurosurgeon and neuroscientist who is a professor of surgery at the University of Saskatchewan. He is known for his work in cell transplantation for Parkinson’s disease and the use of remote presence robotics in neurosurgery and primary health care. 
 
In December 2022, Mendez was appointed an officer of the Order of Canada for his pioneering work in the use of remote telemedicine and robotics to revolutionize the delivery of health and patient care.
 
Dr. Mendez is also the Director of the Virtual Health.
Dr. Allison Crichlow

Dr. Allison Crichlow (Saskatchewan raised), MD – U of Saskatchewan, FRCP Anesthesia U of Calgary.

  • Interest in Trauma Anesthesia (fellowships at Seattle’s Harbour view Medical and Baltimore R Adam Cowley Shock Trauma) and Global Outreach.
  • Trauma Anesthesiologist Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Games.
  • Anesthesia provider Moose Jaw International Medical Mission February 2023 and 2024.
  • Currently Clinical Anesthesiologist Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region/Associate Prof University of Saskatchewan.

Dr. Sarah Nambi
Dr. Nambi Sarah Christine is a dedicated Ugandan medical doctor with a strong background in primary care, currently practicing at Mengo Hospital.
 

A graduate of Makerere University, she is passionate about holistic patient care, preventive medicine, and community health. Dr. Nambi has also worked at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya, gaining extensive experience in clinical practice.

She actively participates in medical camps across Uganda, including a recent camp at Gombe Hospital in 2024. A committed mentor and educator, she collaborates with the Uganda Medical Association to promote healthcare excellence. 

Dr. Nambi will speak at the 4th UNAMS International Conference, focusing on healthcare initiatives in Nakaseke.

Dr. Agnes Nambiro-Kasolo

Dr. Agnes Nambiro-Kasolo is a Board-Certified Internal Medicine physician specializing in hospital and intensive care medicine at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Villa Rica, and Bremmen, Georgia, as well as at Piedmont Regional Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia. She is an Associate Physician Advisor for Tanner Health Systems and an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Mercer School of Medicine.

Born in Kampala, Uganda, Dr. Kasolo completed her O-level education at Uganda Martyrs’ Senior Secondary School and A-levels at the Red Cross Nordic United World College in Norway. She later moved to the USA, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with Special Honors in Humanities from Hunter College, New York. Dr. Kasolo graduated with an MD from the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, with recognition in research.

In her free time, Dr. Kasolo enjoys hosting friends, listening to music, and biking with her family. She lives in Georgia with her husband and two children.

Mrs. Irene Nagitta Lwasa

Irene V. Nagitta is a Ugandan and US-trained lawyer with over 19 years of experience in legal practice. She has worked with international organizations like the UN OHCHR, government agencies, and the private sector, and has managed a law firm. Irene is committed to justice for marginalized communities and has contributed to global initiatives, such as the World Bank’s Women, Business, and the Law 2020 report in Uganda.

She is a strong advocate for sustainable development and has collaborated with Mityana Charity Uganda’s PaCT program to improve healthcare services in underserved districts. Her work has involved building maternity wards, providing medical equipment, supporting health workers, and improving healthcare infrastructure.

Irene is also active in civil society, serving on the board of Mityana Charity Uganda, advising Huys Link Community Initiative, and supporting community programs through the Center for Human Rights and Legal Support.

Dr. Vanessa Cranford

Dr. Vanessa Cranford was born and raised in St. John’s, NL, Canada where she attended medical school and residency in General Surgery.

She then completed fellowships in Surgical Critical Care and Trauma Surgery at University of Florida and University of Ottawa.  She is currently a trauma and acute care surgeon in Regina, SK.  

She started her passion for Global Surgery in 2023, having already worked in Central and South America and Africa with numerous NGO’s with plans to continue providing care to underprivileged and underserviced populations for years to come.

Dr. Aannie Lasway

Dr. Annie Lasway is the founder and CEO of DECODER Health, an organization focused on supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the United States and Tanzania.

Through advocacy, partnerships with behavioral health institutions, and the provision of behavioral health services, DECODER Health works to address autism as a global issue. The organization aims to raise awareness, challenge stigmas, and reduce discrimination associated with autism.

Dr. Lasway has contributed to the field through several publications on autism awareness and best practices. She holds an MPH and a PhD in Health Informatics, which inform her approach to public health and the use of technology in healthcare.
