The Uganda North American Medical Society (UNAMS) is preparing for a comprehensive medical mission to Villa Maria, Uganda, scheduled for summer 2026. This mission aims to strengthen access to essential healthcare services while supporting long-term health education and capacity building within the community.
Planned clinical services include screening, diagnosis, and management of chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The team will also provide screening and care for infectious diseases, including HIV, tuberculosis, influenza, and COVID-19.
In addition to medical care, the mission will offer select minor surgical procedures that do not require postoperative follow-up, along with dental services, ophthalmologic (eye) care, women’s health services, and pediatric care. Preventive health education will be a core focus, including teaching on cervical cancer screening, breast cancer awareness, prostate cancer and BPH screening for men, and early detection practices.
Beyond clinical services, UNAMS is committed to capacity building and professional development. The mission will include mentorship and career development programming, as well as First Aid, Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) training and certification, aimed at strengthening local healthcare knowledge and emergency response capacity.
Call for Volunteers
UNAMS invites healthcare professionals, trainees, and non-clinical volunteers to join this mission and contribute their skills and time. Physicians, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, mental health professionals, allied health providers, students, and community volunteers are encouraged to participate. Volunteers will have the opportunity to provide hands-on care, engage in health education, and collaborate with local providers to support meaningful community impact.
Call for Donors and Supporters
UNAMS also welcomes the support of donors, sponsors, and partners. Financial contributions and in-kind donations are critical to covering medical supplies, medications, equipment, training materials, and logistical needs. Donor support ensures that services are delivered safely, effectively, and sustainably.
Through service, partnership, and generosity, UNAMS seeks not only to address immediate healthcare needs but also to foster sustainable health education, skills transfer, and long-term community impact in Villa Maria.
